Day 206
got off my arse today and went into the studio to shoot some of the shots for my 'exhibition' series. all seemed pretty simple really.....too simple.....still trying to figure out if this is a good thing or not. should i really be berating myself in creating a simple image to get my point across?

on a side note....today would have been my mum's 58th birthday....crazy to think the last birthday i celebrated with her was her 41st. Read more...

Day 203
kate sheppard was the 'mother' of women's suffrage in our country. she led a movement to create a bill to allow women to vote. this bill was passed a few weeks prior to the general election of 1893. although nz were progressive in giving women the right to vote, they weren't so quick off the mark in allowing women to stand for election.
although many countries quickly followed nz in giving women the right to vote, it didn't become international law until 1948 when the united nations adopted the universal declaration of human rights.
of course there are still some countries that have still taken their time in giving women the right to vote, with saudi arabia still dragging it's heel's, the uae only giving their women suffrage a few years ago and other middle eastern countries only a few years before that.
i made a trip down to the statue of kate sheppard(and others) this evening, it being in christchurch as she was from chc. it was covered in white camilia's which is the symbol of women's suffrage....it was awesome to see! Read more...

Day 202
so , for almost a year now, megs and i have said that we must defrost the freezer. everytime she goes away, i say i'm going to do it and never do.....so today when m decided she was going to 'do a little bit', i felt so guilty that i got in there and just did the whole flippen lot, well almost, after she had done a little, and then boy helped finish. man we made a mess, there was so much ice.....but the garden got a good watering at least.

Day 201
after many months, ok most of the year, i finally caught up with an old friend today. last time i had seen her was when i was working at the shop, and pre-boy, so ages ago. i met b years ago when i moved into the house she was moving out of. we re-connected when i moved to chc and caught up with our mutual friend(who also lived in that house, and then later another house with me).
anyway we caught up today which was great. b is full of great energy and positivity, so an hour with her always makes you walk away thinking about things, and feeling good about them. she is also great at working thru problems, so we managed to work thru some of the things i need to get onto, including the need to find locations for my shoots!

Day 199
boy and i finally got out and did another 'co-op' today. we keep planning to do them and then get sidetracked with other things. we have a few up our sleeve to do at the moment, really need to progress and better the last one. today's image didn't necessarily achieve that, but it almost bettered the 'timing' factor of the spade one, which we did right next to a primary school at 3pm! (i had got all confused and thought it was end of term and that the kids had finished at 2 that day).
well today we went to hagley park right on lunch hour. to be honest, there weren't that many weird or questioning looks... makes you wonder what usually goes on down there!

Day 197
awoke to a stunning day today, which was fabulous, as i was headed down to the gardens to do a photoshoot with my cousin and her whanau. as per yesterday's post, i had visited the garden's the day before to check out some locations, and double check the light.
we had a super-fun morning with misbehaving children, well not so much misbehaving, but a lot of over the top smiling and poking out of tongues. so in the end i had to just keep shooting, i realised that continually shooting made the kids realise that it wasn't a 'special' thing when you did press the button, so they relaxed...more so luca...charlotte was just copying big bro most of the time.
after a good hour and a half session, which did include some games of mr wolf and the like, we headed over to arts centre for coffee and ice cream and a chillax in the sun.

Day 195
this is a current advertising campaign around town. not sure why i am drawn to it, but i am. i guess it's that each poster is one in it's own, but also as four (well five) they are an image, connected by the letters, by the 'land'. Read more...

Day 190
so late today, boy receives a phone call from his mama seeing if we are at home, we were just on our way, so she said she was coming over to visit. weird, but ok. then boy told me she had something for me...hence she was so desperate to come over.
what on earth could she have for me, i'm thinking. it was only the birthday last weekend and she was far too generous then! so when she walked in the door, my jaw did nearly hit the floor.......

Day 189
on such a stunning day, what else is there to do, but to go for a drive in the country!

Day 188
tonite i played the good girlfriend card. boy had gone to a mates for drinks, so i went and hung out with his mummy at the mall. kinda was in the mood for browsing so we did. it was fun. probably not quite the same as shopping with one's own mum, but close enough....albeit this one is way too young to be my mum ;) (joys of dating a younger man, no ancient 'ma in-laws').
score of the nite - two scarves for less than half the original price of one. we like that.

Day 185
belated birthday dinner tonite with boy and his mama. finally got to go to bodhi tree, a burmese restaurant in town. i'd heard great things about it, and there were lots of vego options. i wasn't so sure about the fat content, as most asian countries use a reasonable amount of oil in their cooking, but figured there would be something i could eat....and there was....although my first two choices were the only two things on the menu they couldn't lower the oil in, damn it! dang it was good too - esp the blue peas.
After we popped across the road to metro for a coffee and something sweet, for those that could indulge...ie not me, although i did have a hot chocolate, the closest i get these days.
