Day 184

it may still be winter, but boy it feels like spring, in fact almost summer. the skies are so so blue and the sun is shining brightly. when we were in the gardens yesterday all the trees were out in blossom, so we figured we'd head back today and take some shots of the blossom.... it does have to be done sometimes! there were a lot less people around, so made it easier, and more enjoyable to just wander around in the sun... although it was way colder than yesterday (note clothing change)....good ole southerly!

Day 183

happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me.  happy birthday dear meeeeeeee, happy birthday to me!
to be honest i really was that fussed about my birthday this year.  i guess as you get older they really don't mean as much as they used to, definitely not the meh numbers anyway!
we were going to head out for breakfast, but as it had been a gorgeous day yesterday we did it a day early.  so today we cruised....french toast in bed, yum!  got up middayish and slowly made our way to hagley park, where we thought we could do some corny daffidol photos, and did we what!  gotta love corn....well at least laugh at it ;)
then we headed to the art gallery to check out an exhibition i have been wanting to see for ages, seraphine pick.  it was amazing, awesome, so inspiring.
dinner was japanese.....gooooooood japanese and cheap.
thank god, another birthday over.

Day 182

birthday eve catch up with katherine and matt tonite. i realised i hadn't actually seen matt since xmas, and therefore not since he had proposed to k....very sad really.
stupid me agreed to meet at 5, and of course i was having my 'down' time.....between 5 & 7 i always seem to lack energy and any enthusiasm for much, so really not the best time to be catching up with friends and trying to converse. sad chook am i!
we started at the dux as it had been such a stunning day....but man, once that sun went down, coooooooooold!!!!! grabbed us a table under an oudoor heater at least. we moved onto alchemy after a lil bit, where it was much warmer!
managed to fill the evening up tho, and i wasn't "that" bad company - just not super flash....must remember that tho - don't arrange catch-ups between 5 and 7pm.

Day 181

shot another wedding today.  it was so low key and cruisy, which made it great fun to shoot.  i met angie, the bride, during my first year of tech here in chc.  she looked after the scholarship applications etc (of which i was madly applying for as many as possible).  we hit it off straight away and always have plenty to talk about having a common interest in anthropology!
ang had spoken to me earlier in the year about possibly doing her wedding, but me being me, had shied away from it....lack of confidence etc etc.  then a a few days after c&m's wedding ang contacted me about shooting her and andrew's wedding.  they'd decided sort of last minute to get a photographer.  luckily i was feeling great after having just shot the other wedding and so said yes.  so glad i did!
it was a beautiful sunny albeit windy day, which meant no going up into the hills for photos, besides ang was running pretty late.  so we just went to a few spots we'd found in sumner and had fun.  that was the aim of the day, and again, a&a had asked for casual photos! have a sneak peek at a few here.  we also included a trip to the pub too, especially as it was prior to the ceremony.....figured it would help relax them a little too....

Day 179

just another day at the office - but did finally get a piccy to show you my cave....coz it is like a cave.....very very dark.  does send me to zzz sometimes, lots of coffee has to be drunk at times.  still is great to be working with imagery, other than my own.  and what is really great about my cave....it's soundproof.  so when i'm having a bad day, i just shut the door, turn the music up loud and scream.

Day 178

finally got cable installed today. yay, fast'er' internet! but it's only taken a month of 'yes you can have it', 'no you can't have it', 'yes', 'no', 'yes'
so in case you haven't it from that, it's been a bit of a drama. first it wasn't an issue. then they came out to inspect and it was still fine. then the guy came in to install, and the lines to the house weren't correct. then another guy came out and he couldn't lay the lines coz the house was too far from the street and we would need to get a phone line as well as the internet.. then the qc guy came out, and said it could be done, without the phone line, then the next guy came to install and said that the cables we hanging too low(or something). at this point i was soooooooo not impressed, especially after the qc guy had said that there would not be any more problems. i told the technician guy to call him, and apparently 'qc guy' told him 'just to do it'. and that was today, still took him a fair while....four hoursish...sheesh.....but yay - way faster internet now. i heart cable

Day 177

started back again at strategy today. man have to say, after not doing full day's for quite a while, doing one really takes it out of ya! i was pretty stuffed come 5 o'clock ..... pretty sad really. i think it's the sitting in a dark room all day too..... brain thinks it's night-time, and all that! **yawn**

Day 176

did the shoot with rondah today. i have to say the model looked amazing. rondah did an amazing job of the hair. boy did a great job on post-production....have a looky here.
we had to wait a lil bit for r to arrive, so boy and i stuffed around (as per) and took some 'gawgeous' shots of us for keepsakes (hang on, i'll just grab the bucket).

Day 175

talk about a gorgeous bride, when she walked down that aisle she looked amazing. the dress was stunning, the hair amazing...it was just great!
what else was awesome, was that i got to hang out with a pile of mates from tech! d & a had come over from melbourne, so that was just way cool.
great to see you all guys. love ya xx

Day 174

not quite sure why i feel like this at the moment....esp as the weather is getting better and better each week(so awesome)! maybe it's just that it's friday and i'm getting throwing back into a routine next week....that should be a good thing, right?! most people would think that, and rationally i do, but i guess, as ever, my subconscious is getting to me again...stupid bloody thing!

Day 173

my friend christina is getting married this weekend. tonite was the kitchen tea party. having had a hen's nite a few weeks earlier, we could pass on the 'necessary' games which are 'aids to teach the bride' things she does not know.....or so tradition is. so instead we had a relaxed evening and sat around chatting, and drinking (non-al for me). christina had decided this morning that she needed decorations for the church pews, so we set about making those, as really it was the last thing she needed to think about tomorrow, wedding eve!

Day 172

i had phone calls today. phone calls i wasn't expecting.
you know how nothing ever happens for ages, and then all of a sudden everything happens and you have choices!
first i had a 'phone interview' for a PT job i had been looking at....sweet! secondly the company where i had a contract earlier this year called me to say finally the clients had signed the contract and i could come in and do more work. yuss!
we like that

Day 170

finally got off my arse and went and saw the latest harry potter flick with megs tonite. it wasn't bad. the sfx are definitely getting better and better. i remember going to the first film and walking out feeling so, so let down. nothing was like i had imagined it and it all just looked blah! but with each film things have improved and so now with them at the 6th film, it's looking pretty sharp. some of the acting still leaves a lot to be desired tho...you'd have thought they'd have got that right by now!

Day 168

earlier this week i offered my photographic services to friends of meg's that make the most amazing cakes. double banger really - i get to practice my product photography, and they get some great photos of their cakes. we're both just starting our businesses, so it helps us both out - so i figure.
anyway late last nite i got a message asking me if they could take up my offer tomorrow morning, they had just finished an awesome cake. i said sure...even thou i wasn't particularly prepared. (apparently they weren't actually expecting me to say yes - ha)
so early(for me) this morning i got up and went over to their place to take the pics. the cake was amazing, and i really didn't do it justice, but i now know what i need for next time at least.
tell ya what tho, not too sure about shooting this stuff i can't eat - it's torture!

nb....my first whoops, lost the file of me taking the photos of the cake.....so had to fill in with this one - dang it

Day 167

last year i did a shoot with a couple of my classmates for a hairdressing competition. the hairdresser was rondah and i have stayed in touch with her since then.....mainly coz she cuts my hair now! she is super-talented and has won numerous awards in her time!
earlier this year she did a make up course so i had suggested if she wanted to get some new portfolio images done we should get together and get it down. having the boy around makes it all a bit easier now, as i can palm these things off to him, as he enjoys that style of shooting more than i do.....although i really should push myself outside my comfort zone sooner, rather than later!
we caught up with rondah today to talk through some ideas for some shoots. she in fact had another comp in mind, so we're going to concentrate on that sunday week....should be fun!

Day 166

looking for work can be a drag. i've had a weird sort of year this year with a contract, then it winding up earlier than expected, and then other bits and pieces kinda dribbling in....but not much with the 'recession' and all. it's got to the point where i need to cover all bases, so off down to the temp agency i go to sign up with all my 'array' of skills and fab personality.
i dunno if it's the fact that i haven't worked for a few years (being a student and all) or the fact i am getting old, but oh my goodness i really gave a bad interview today. things i couldn't remember, jobs, people, workplaces....mate i wouldn't hire me! it was utterly embarrassing! my tests were average, def not as good as usual (ie as previous times)....overall not a great day for the self esteem. oh well, who knows, something may come of it. whenever i have had temp roles in the past, i have usually gone in for a few days and ended up staying months....just gotta get that first assignment, possibly wishful thinking in this climate

Day 165

my friend callum moved to auckland a little over a month ago. chc just isn't the same anymore. he was my coffee buddy(wine buddy when i could still drink). whenever either of us needed to hang out and de-stress the other was on hand to help, and consume said drink! the past six weeks have been weird without my drinking buddy. i did catch up with him a few weeks ago at his wedding, in auckland...but it just wasn't the same.
today i got the best phone call, callum was flying down for coffee....how awesome is that!!!! he misses me so..... oh and his husband(who is momentarily still down here)!

Day 161

during the week, some billy(namely me) offered boy's and my help delivering the new telephone books, which megs(flatty) was doing as a fundraiser for the school where she is arts co-ordinator.
so early on a rather cold saturday morning one would have to say, we got up and headed out with what little energy we could muster(which is not much at the best of times, let alone this time on a saturday morning)
there had been issues all week with the yellow pages having not being delivered, or only partially delivered, with still more being needed. there were enough books though to go out and do one trip before the delivery of yellow pages that morning, so we stacked up the trailer and off we went.
well.....we didn't get very far...just before we were about to hit the 'motorway', the bolts came off both left-hand wheels of the trailer which left us stranded on the side of the road with a useless trailer full of phone books. thankfully we were onto it, and it wasn't long before we had a new trailer in tow, had transferred all the books and were off on the first lot of delivery's.
that didn't take long and it was back to the depot where the yellow pages still had not been delivered...coffee time! great timing, as we hadn't been back long and the yellow's arrived, and the bun fight was on!
we got enough packaged up and off on the next delivery. that didn't take too long and it was mighty warm by now, so it was rather pleasant walking the streets, dumping books.
Funniest delivery of the day would have to be when we were attempting to put the books in a letterbox thru a fence, and the 'friendly' dogs of the house wouldn't have a bar of it, so while they were being semi-distracted i simply dropped a lot over the fence....yeah, you kinda had to be there.
that done, we were done, well boy and i....off home for a little rest!

Day 160

i love having visitors and was muchly looking forward today. one of my bestie's niksta and her man were in town for the weekend, and today, was our day!
nik and i only the year before i moved to chc when i was temping and was 'her' for a few weeks. we hit it off right away and have stayed in touch ever since. many adventures we have had since then....including being nana's at the viaduct a few saturday's prior to xmas and watching all the trashed girls having cat fights. walking down k rd with me mouthing off and niksta pulling me down the street before i possibly got my face re-arranged for telling these young girls that the way they were dressed they should really be working the corner down the way. being harassed by comedians, as per day 76!
so understandably i was looking forward to all sorts of hi-jinx, or at the least a lot of laughs. i was not let down, although a momentary low in energy for kirst looked like ruining the day with a possible meltdown...but once again, niksta saved the day by ensuring that food was found to meet my needs and literally forced it down my throat.
a fabulous day was had by the four of us and chc put the weather on for our akl visitors!
nb - for those having not entered the male toilets at fat eddies in sol square - this is what they look like ;)

full moons aren't my friend....well mostly they aren't. lack of sleep, grumpy moods, exhaustion and general meh-ness. lots of people are affected by the full moon. some more than others. of particular note, was one of my tutor's at tech. he would act like like a hyperactive child the days surrounding the full moon.....all caused by lack of sleep, so he claimed....

so the day finally arrived, last week, when boy and i turned into the 'sad' couple. ok, so many of you may think this happened a while ago, and it probably did, but we got sadder, ok!
boy got himself a lappy last week, he's been masturbating over it since then, but we do manage to be in the same bed together and not just for sleeping.....

Day 156

the arts festival is on at the moment, as i have mentioned previously. this year there seems to be way more awareness and marketing than a couple of years ago, particularly emphasised by the huge 'entrances' in cathedral square.
they are pretty cool tho, and it made me stop and notice the multimedia installations shown 'in' the window frames of buildings surrounding the square. i have to say the pole dancing deer head was rather amusing, but spell-binding at the same time.
oh - there is an ice rink in an 'igloo' temporarily in the square

Day 155

my aunt flew through chc today on her way home to gore after being in auckland for the birth of her youngest's first child. i went out to the airport to hang out with her while she waited for her connecting flight to dunner's.
it was great to catch up and spend time with her and hear about what is happening in her world and my nana's world. my nana was moved to gore from wanganui last year so she could be closer to my aunt.
nana was 95 this year. she's in relatively good health, but a tad dottery!!! bless her....she wouldn't have a clue who i am!
anyway, we had a quick coffee, i saw pictures of the newest grandchild and then met her partner(who was on a different flight) and walked them to their plane...which i have to say, was at a gate i didn't even know existed!

Day 154

Today we had the boy's nana's (well, great) 100th bday. i'm not big on group things at the best of times, but for this to be a group of unknown's all related to boy was even more daunting! ok, so really they were there to see nana, but i was bound to get harrassed at some point, little did i know it would be perched at the top of an unsteady ladder while i was trying to take family group photos! as one can see, i wasn't wearing the most practical shoes to be up a ladder either. luckily there weren't too many, three, two, one's and vice versa, required and the pain lasted only a short time. after that tho, everyone knew who i was and i therefore had to make conversation with everyone. actually it wasn't as bad as i expected.
boy's family are not too bad!

About This Blog

365 days has been around for ever (it's probably older than me even). i have resisted the temptation to do one, until now.
i am the photographic artist in residence at christchurch polytechnic, new zealand, this year. a friend decided she was going to do a 365 days, and conned me into doing it too. I figured it would be a great project for the year, and a great way to remember the year. to make it a little more challenging, i decided to take self-portrait each day.
so here goes
